Every vessel in the Copper Collection
involves dozens of hours of design and creation.
We start by making detailed sketches of every element which will be incorporated
into the design of the work.
Then, we thoughtfully select just
the right copper materials from a large assortment of available
materials. From very fine mesh to thick foil, each piece utilizes
no less than 6 types of copper material.
Some of the copper is treated or
altered to create a unique luster or shaded element to the metal.
The altering techniques used are unique and have been developed
exclusively by Colorado Copperworks.
Once the copper has been selected
it is hand cut by the artist, into the shapes required to make
up the scene.
No less than one hundred individual pieces of copper go into making a single
design (some of the larger pieces have almost 1000 pieces of hand cut copper).
The copper pieces are then meticulously
placed on sheets of hand cut clear glass. Several pieces of glass
are used in order to create a sense of depth and dimensionality.
Once the design has been laid out, the vessel is fired in order
to fuse the metal and glass together.
After the long fusing and cooling process some of the work is slumped into
a shape, while others are a completed work of
artistry ready to be displayed.
