Colorado Copperworks
is nestled in the mountain range of the historic town of Manitou
Springs, Colorado.
The Studio has been making specialty
glassware
for more than a decade.
Our process uses a combination of ancient
glass making techniques developed by the Romans combined with modern
materials. Our unique process
involves the hand cutting of copper wire and mesh to create the
design.
The copper is then fused in between
several pieces of hand cut clear glass. This layering of glass and
copper creates a special dimensionality and texture to the design.
The copper when exposed to heat in this way develops subtle variations
in hue and color. Some pieces
also employ colored glass oxides or enamels. These
oxides are applied in very subtle ways to achieve slight color definition.
The
final step is to slump the piece into its final shape. Every
vessel we make requires dozens of hours to complete.
Some
pieces are designed to be used as window or door inserts, wall panels
and even table tops.
Colorado Copperworks
only makes one of a kind, limited edition, numbered works. Each
vessel
comes
with
a serial numbered card of
authenticity.
